Capturing your personal style in your own home is a key element to your next redecorating project. This can be done by accentuating your personal style with unique area rugs. You may not realize it but you have your own personal style. To discover what your personal style is just take a short walk to your closet and take a look at your clothes. What do you see? What colors dominate? Are you a casual dresser or do you tend to lean toward more formal wear? What you will find in your closet is a direct reflection of your personal style. The things you wear are what make you feel the most comfortable and you can pick out an area rug as if you were looking for a new shirt. The color and style of the clothing in your closet, as well as your spouse’s, can help you decorate your home with unique area rugs using your own personal style.
Your Wardrobe Colors
Use your closet to find the color of the unique area rug that would best fit your personal style. If you like and wear a lot of one color or colors then those colors generally looks good against your skin and make you feel the most comfortable. These colors are the colors you should look for in your area rug. You may be surprised to find you already decorate your home with these colors! For instance, if neutrals such as tan and white are the basic foundation of your clothing then you should look for an area rug in these tones. To the right is an example of a closet. Reds and blacks seem to stand out, as well as blues. You may want to look for an area rug that use these colors or pick one color to use in the rug, such as the red and use another color, such as the black, in your furniture or accessories.
Your Wardrobe Style
What type of clothes do you wear? Are there more jeans and tennis shoes than skirts and heels in your closet? This might help you decide what style of area rug to choose to decorate your home.
If formal wear, suits and dress slacks, pin stripes and pumps are your preferred mode of dress then perhaps you would lean more towards the traditional style. These rugs are made for more formal homes or rooms such as your dining room or office where you would like things to be more elaborate. These rugs tend to use darker colors and use very elegant designs.
Is your closet full of bright colors? Do you wear a lot of metal and plastic? Perhaps your style is more contemporary then.
Contemporary rugs, such as the Andy Warhol Collection is the perfect way to introduce a unique area rug into your room that your friends will exclaim over. If your clothes are made up of big bold shapes and strong colors then this style will be a perfect fit for you.
Your Spouse’s or Roommate’s Wardrobe
You may not be the only person living in your home and you may need to decorate around someone else’s style also. Are they traditional and you are more contemporary? Take a look at a transitional style rug. This rug mixes some of the elegant aspects of a traditional rug with a modern flair.
Are your blouses pressed and arranged by color but to get to them you trip over his muddy cowboy boots? Are your styles so different that you do not know how to mesh them together? Then try the classic style that can look good with many different decors.
Unique area rugs are a great way to begin to decorate using your own personal style. By looking in your closet you can find the best area rug for your floor!
