Bathroom Sinks : Types of Sinks

Sinks have come a long way over the years, they are no longer just a white porcelain bowl set into a cabinet with a door or on a plain white pedestal.

Depending on your your decorating style, or your space needs, there is a sink for you.

Vessel Sinks - These sinks can be made of several different materials but they all sit above the counter top. These sinks will often look like a large bowl, or vessel, that sits on a counter.

Pedestal Sinks - Pedestal sinks are basically a sink on a single stand. They are often simple though the stands can be very ornate.

Reproduction Sinks - What is old will often become new again and this holds true with sinks just as much as anything else! Reproduction sinks are just what they sound like, reproduction of sinks from different eras.

Counter Top Sinks - Counter top sinks are perhaps the most common. They sit on top of the counter.

Undermount Sinks - Basically the opposite of a counter top sink, undermount sinks fit below the counter top.

Console Sinks - Console sinks are similar to pedestal sinks in that they do not have a cabinet. Instead of just one stand holding the sink up, console sinks use two or more legs to hold the sink in the air.

Vanity Sinks - Sinks are often either stand alone or they are combined with a counter top. Vanity sinks are one piece, the counter top and sink are a formed piece that will often sit on top of a cabinet.

Wall-Mounted Sinks - Wall-mounted sinks are self-explanatory. They are sinks mounted directly to the wall which is good for guest bathrooms or bathrooms in which there is too small of a space for a large cabinet and sink.
