Faux Painting - Ragging

Ragging is a Faux Paint technique that is used with wrags, newspapers, bags, etc. to create a mottled affect on walls or furniture.Typically copying the look of marble or other natural stones and sometimes the look of old plaster walls.

To rag a wall you will generally work in a circular motion. You will dab the paint or glaze onto the cloth or bag. Then working from your wrist motion dab and turn and work the paint or glaze in until all the sharp edges have faded a bit.

When ragging you want to apply the first coat of color and let dry. Then come back with a second color and apply it with the ragging technique.

The best place to find complete instructions is at your local paint store. You can find additional faux finish techniques at Sherwin Williams
